He kaupapa motuhake e whakamana ana i ngā whānau me ō rātou ake tikanga mo te tiaki tūpāpaku. Mā mātou o Haven Falls e āwhina i te whānau ki te whakamahi i ngā rauemi ka tukuna atu me te whakaora i ngā mātauranga o te tiaki tūpāpaku kia rangatira ai te noho. Te Korowai o Poutama Tangihanga is Haven Falls response to the karanga for whānau to reclaim their tangihanga process and take care of their own loved ones.
This kete enables whānau to practice their traditional funeral rituals at home from beginning to end. Haven Falls will assist and guide the whānau on how to use the resources provided to do this sacred undertaking. Support will also be provided on how to properly treat the tūpāpaku, ensuring their mana and dignity is maintained. Haven Falls will ensure all the legal requirements are being met.
Te Kete o Te Korowai o Poutama
Services Provided by Kaiārahi o Haven Falls
Initial assessment with whānau to determine kete suitability.
Coordination with whānau Medical Practitioner’ to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
Travel to whānau whare with kete rauemi (Maximum 85km one way).
Provide whānau resources for preparation of the Tūpāpaku – cleansing, dressing, ongoing care & waka lining etc.
Provide waka hoki whenua Pohutukawa suitable for standard size Tūpāpaku.
Assist and support whānau for preparation of Tūpāpaku – cleansing, dressing, placing into waka etc.
Provide whānau with Tūāhu (cooling mat) for the duration of the tangihanga and guide through ongoing use.
Assist whānau to complete WINZ funeral grant and coordinate submission of the application.
Complete all whānau obligations with the Department of Internal Aairs to register and obtain the death certificate.
Ngā Utu
Haven Falls has shaped the cost of providing the services of this kaupapa to align to the WINZ funeral grant, for which most whānau are eligible.
Our Kaiārahi will complete the FGA at the whare with the designated next of kin and will submit this application on behalf of the whānau. If WINZ require further information they will contact the whānau directly.
Whanau will be provided with an invoice of costs upon providing these support services. There is no upfront payment required and the invoice will be provided on a 30-day basis.
There will be no additional costs incurred for weekends or after hours provided this does not exceed Kaiārahi providing this support or services after 10.00pm.
Haven Falls will koha whānau a Pou Whenua (gravemarker).
Ngā Tukanga
The process of commencing this kete will start with a kōrero and assessment of suitability for the whānau to engage with this kaupapa.
Once suitability is determined our Kaiārahi from Haven Falls will coordinate with the whānau doctor to establish they will provide the required documentation to proceed.
Once our Kaiārahi has confirmation from the doctor they will coordinate with the whānau to make their way to the whare with the kete rauemi to assist the whānau. Rauemi available to whānau include various washing and cleansing oils, kawakawa, lavender, tea tree oil etc, materials to assist with inhibiting leakage or seeping of fluids, products to assist with facial presentation, and the Tūāhu (cooling mat), to maintain an environment conducive with the required temperature control. Also included in this kete is the waka hoki whenua provided as the final moenga for the tūpāpaku.
Ngā kaiārahi will then complete an assessment of the environment and the Tūpāpaku and will determine the rauemi needed to assist in Tūpāpaku preparation.
Haven Falls will also complete all of the necessary paperwork with whānau at the whare to meet the requirements of whare tangihanga records, Internal Affairs and WINZ.
