The Haven Falls team has been busily working behind the scenes since the beginning of 2019 and can now officially announce that Haven Falls – Poutama Tangihanga has its own community trust.
“This is something that we have been wanting to do for a long time and was inspired by the many kaumatua and kuia (elderly) that we have taken care of that have made significant contributions to our communities,” says director Allen Pukepuke, speaking on behalf of the team.
“The trust will be funded by all three of our funeral homes, with a percentage of income being directed to the trust for distribution into the communities we serve of Auckland, Whangarei and Wellington. This is a way for us as an organisation to give back, but we also see this as a unique opportunity for the whanau (family) members that we take care of to continue to contribute to their communities even after their passing. The trust consists of a whanau trust board, kaumatua and a committee made up of team members and community representatives from each area we operate in.”
Meanwhile, teams on each site have been busy working on the community trust initiative, with the Community Pataka (Community Food Pantries), open at the Auckland, Whangarei, and Wellington sites. Contributions big and small, are all welcome and appreciated.
During the school term we provide school lunches or hot soups during the winter season, which has been a lovely extension of our community aroha (love). While school lunches are un-available during the school holidays, our Pataka remain open to accept donations.
If you have any queries regarding the Pataka, school lunches or community trust, please contact one of the Haven Falls team members.
